Does anyone have a recipe for a healthy warm breakfast drink?

I have been having fruit smoothies for breakfast which is great becuase I can sip it throughout the morning and not get a craving for food until lunch. However now that the temperature is getting cooler I'm finding that I'm much less inclined to choose a smoothie as I'd rather start my day with soemthing warm. I've looked online but can't seem to find any warm breakfast drinks that are healthy so if you have any recipes to share I would be very greatful. Thanks!!Does anyone have a recipe for a healthy warm breakfast drink?

Does anyone have any good soup recipes..also healthy ones? thanks?

I don't use recipes, just kind of ';throw things together.'; For soup, I use Swanson broth, either vegetable or chicken, and simmer that with diced onions and diced celery. After it has developed a wonderful aroma, I add frozen peas, carrots, corn, broccoli, or whatever I have on hand in the freezer, and simmer it until everything is cooked. I sometimes also throw in some brown rice for extra body. If I have leftover meat, I cube that and toss it in the pot too. Never tastes the same twice, but it's always good! There's a Japanese dressing that uses crushed sesame seeds and a bit of soy sauce, which is delicious. You can make it by getting tahini (sesame seed paste), whisking in some water to thin it out, add a splash of lemon juice or rice vinegar, and some soy sauce.

Or you can just buy it in a bottle from a Japanese grocer (it's called goma-dressing).

I warmly, warmly recommend it. She travels around the world on a shoestring, ';learning the art of clean eating'; (from the back cover). It's funny, touching, inspiring. Between the chapters, lots of easy recipes of clean food, all of them vegetarian.

    鈥?1-ounce dried porcini mushrooms

    鈥?1 1/2 cups hot water

    鈥?3 carrots, peeled and chopped

    鈥?1 onion, peeled and chopped

鈥?1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped

    鈥?2 garlic cloves

    鈥?1/4 cup olive oil

鈥?2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme leaves

鈥?1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano leaves

    鈥?2 teaspoons salt

鈥?1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

鈥?5 ounces assorted mushrooms (like shiitake, cremini, and brown), stemmed and chopped

    鈥?2 tablespoons tomato paste

    鈥?1/2 cup red wine

    鈥?1/2 cup mascarpone cheese

    鈥?1 pound rigatoni pasta

    鈥?1/4 cup Parmesan

    Directions

Place the dried mushrooms in a small bowl and cover with 1 1/2 cups very hot water. Set aside and let the mushrooms soften.

Place the carrots, onion, bell pepper, and garlic in a food processor. Pulse the vegetables until finely chopped but still chunky. Place the olive oil in a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped vegetables, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper and cook until tender, about 6 minutes. Strain the porcini mushrooms, reserving the porcini mushroom liquid. Add the porcini mushrooms, fresh mushrooms, and tomato paste and continue cooking, stirring to dissolve the tomato paste, until the mushrooms are softened, about 5 minutes. Add the porcini mushroom liquid and red wine. Bring the liquid to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and let the mixture simmer until the liquid is reduced by half, about 10 minutes. Add mascarpone cheese and stir just until the cheese is incorporated.

Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid and add to the vegetable mixture. Add some of the reserved pasta cooking liquid, if necessary, to moisten the sauce. Toss with Parmesan and serve.

鈥?3/4 pound farfalle or other dry pasta

鈥?1/4 cup freshly chopped basil leaves

    Directions

Heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan and cook the onions and garlic until very tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Add the tomatoes, olives, raisins, white wine, capers, and crushed red pepper flakes and cook until the tomatoes have broken down slightly and the sauce is slightly thickened, 7 to 10 minutes. Add kosher salt and black pepper, to taste, and set aside to keep warm.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package directions until just al dente. Drain the pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid, and place the pasta in a large mixing bowl along with the hot pasta sauce and the basil. Toss to combine, adding pasta cooking water 1 or 2 tablespoons at a time to thin the sauce, if necessary. Serve the pasta in shallow bowls, drizzled with the remaining olive oil and garnished with the feta cheese. Serves 5-6.

    Pumpkin Muffins

    1 cup sugar

    1 cup canned pumpkin

    3/4 cup olive oil

    1/4 cup water

    1-2/3 cup flour

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    3/4 teaspoon salt

2 egg whites and 1 whole

1 cup of splenda baking sugar (is great! a cup for a cup)

the rest looks great unless you want to use fresh cooked pumpkin

Almonds would be a good choice for nuts, since it has less fat.How do you make this recipe healthy?
you might reduce the oil to 1/4 cup and add 1/2 cup applesauce for moistness other than that it seems fine. you also could reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup as I am sure there is plenty of flavor from all the spices and leave out the nuts if you are counting calories.
replace the sugar like mentioned above, and use egg whites instead of eggs (although use twice as many as it calls for... so if it calls for 2 eggs, use 3 or 4 egg whites)
    PUMPKIN RAISIN MUFFINS WITH EQUAL

    3/4 cup canned pumpkin

    2 teaspoons vanilla

    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

    1 cup Equal庐 Spoonful*

    1/2 cup raisins

    1 tablespoon baking powder

    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

    1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

    1/4 teaspoon salt

Combine pumpkin, oil, egg and egg whites, molasses and vanilla. Stir in combined flour, Equal庐, raisins, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and salt just until all ingredients are moistened. Fill paper lined 2 1/2 inch muffin cups about 3/4 full.

Bake in preheated 375掳F 18 to 20 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack 2 to 3 minutes. Remove muffins from pan and cool completely on wire rack.

    Makes 12 muffins.

    * May substitute 24 packets Equal庐 sweetener.
to serve for company put it on a saucer and then add cool whip with a strawberry or piece of fruit on top

serve with a pretty doily and silverware
You could use Ener-G Egg replacer (1 tbsp replacer to 4 tbsp of water to replace the two eggs) and mix it thoroughly before adding to the batter. Ener-G Egg is starches and leaveners designed for people who cannot eat egg products (Egg Beaters have actual eggs in them).

You could use a little less sugar and use turbinado (raw) instead of refined.

Make sure the canned pumpkin is nothing more than actual pumpkins.

You could use canola oil and sub half of it with applesauce.

If you're really worried, don't use nuts.

But it doesn't seem terribly unhealthy to me.
    - Use egg substitute for the eggs. Generally, 1/4 cup of the substitute is equivilant for one egg.

    - You could use baking Splenda instead of sugar, or just keep the sugar.

    - Use applesauce instead of the oil

    - Cut the salt to 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon

    - Use unbleached flour or another whole wheat flour or even Fiber One cereal instead of all-purpose flour. Personally, I'd go with the Fiber One cereal as it will add fiber to your treat and make it as healthy as it could possibly be. No need for the flour at that point.

Outside of that, it sounds like a pretty decent recipe.
Everything is good except for the sugar. If you can stand the taste of Splenda, then replace the sugar with splenda. Then you will be almost eating sugar free/low carb muffins!

If you want to reduce the fat in this recipe. Only use the egg whites, and either add two more egg whites(to replace the egg yolks) to the recipe to keep it moist, or replace the yolks with applesauce.

    Cheers and Healthy Eating! :-)
wow. Ok, you can use egg beaters instead of the eggs. Egg beaters are basically fake eggs that are healthier than real ones, or you can try using both real eggs but just one yolk. Reduce the sugar to 1/2 cup, or do away with it all together (though I'm not sure how that would taste). The olive oil is ok because it's the kind of fats that your body needs and it helps to keep the muffin moist and fluffy. Everything else should probably be fine. You can reduce the amount of pumpkin you put in it but then you'll have less flavor. If you only use pumpkin which has no other additives, then you should be fine. Spices are fine too.
Use egg-beaters, add benefiber or powdered fiber.
I must be missing something .With the exception of the fact that all that olive oil will make this product basically inedible only a person with serious food issues would consider that recipe to be unhealthy.
This recipe is very healthy already. If you want to use 1 cup whole wheat flour and 2/3 cup unbleached flour instead of white. If you want it low fat (olive oil is very healthy) use 1 cup applesauce in place of the oil. You may substitute 2 egg whites for one of the eggs if desired. Sugar substitute is not a healthy subsitute, they are all artificial and have side effects. You can use brown or raw sugar, but if you try to substitute sugars you will get a different texture you may not like. You do not need that much salt, you can cut it in half if you like. Don't leave out the nuts unless you are allergic to nuts, they are very healthy.
...use pumpkin with no cornsryrup added...less bloating...
You've actually got a very healthy recipe already!

I would just cut the salt to half a teaspoon and reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup. Also make the nuts pecans, walnuts or almonds. Those are the most beneficial of nuts.

The cinnamon and nuts are both items that regulate blood sugar, naturally. The olive oil is the healthiest oil you can cook/bake with and canned pumpkin is an incredibly beneficial food.

You've got a great snack there already. enjoy it, whether you alter the recipe or not.
replace the suger with a sweetner...like equal or sweet-n-low
For the most part, it is healthy as it is. You could substitute the whole eggs with egg whites and use Splenda instead of sugar. Or try Stevia for the sweetener.
replace the sugar with splenda. tastes and measures exactly the same as sugar. i use it for all my baking. and it works great. hope this helps.
It's got a lot of either ';pretty healthy stuff,'; or ';not awful stuff'; in it already.

The biggest offenders are the cup of sugar, and the olive oil. You can use Splenda or apple sauce in place of the sugar, and canola oil (can't imagine why you'd need 3/4 cup!!) or margarine in place of the olive oil.

    Leave out the nuts, too.
everything in it is healthy for you.enjoy!!
Use a sugar substitute for the sugar (Splenda) and use fresh pumpkin that you have baked in the oven at 350 degrees (about an hour) for the canned.
Use egg beaters instead of eggs, and splenda instead of sugar. Everything else seems o.k.
replace the eggs with egg whites, sugar with sweetner, and eliminate the salt
use just the egg whites...use splenda instead of sugar..cut back salt.use a real pumpkin [inside] mix in blender..
with all the other suggestions you can also replace the oil with applesauce..olive oil is better for you..but oil is oil and its better to cut it out if you can

    Healthy Cat Food Recipes?

I just got a 7 wk. old orange tabby today, and since I love cooking, I wanted to see if it was healthy to add things like bread, meat, ect. My grandmother does, even noodles! I want to make sure my kitten is extra healthy, and doesn't get bored with her diet.

    Please help!Healthy Cat Food Recipes?
Hi Abigail...ideally, cats should be fed a diet designed for their needs as they require special nutrients to maintain excellent feline health such as a taurine (found in most cat food products).

There are many human foods which can be very toxic to our pet cats and should be avoided. Here is a list of some of those foods: http://www.peteducation.com:80/article.c鈥?/a>

By offering a variety of foods some cats can become extremely finicky eaters and contribute to feline diseases/disorders: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?鈥?/a>

Please consider reading the following articles by Cornell University College for Feline Health on feeding cats:

    http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures鈥?/a>

    http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/news/feed鈥?/a>Healthy Cat Food Recipes?
Don't cook for your cat. You can certainly prepare his food, but cooking shouldn't be involved. Cats do best eating raw meat. Things like bread and pasta are going to add unnecessary carbs which may lead to weight gain. Not only that, but they contain things that many cats are allergic to. Allergies in cats often turn up in the litter box which doesn't make anyone happy!

You don't need to worry too much about your cat getting bored with their food. They don't have very many taste buds so it's not a big deal. However, according to my new vet (and others) variety is a good thing because that'll ensure that they're getting a good variety of bacteria and nutrient sources.

Also, it's good to offer variety to young cats because that will help prevent them from imprinting on a particular food. If you need to change their diet down the road, it's more difficult if there's only one thing they're willing to eat!

It's best to feed wet food - that can be either a properly balanced raw meat diet or a good quality canned food.
Sounds like a thoughtful idea, but it's soooo easy to get the diet wrong doing this yourself. My best advice is to stick with commercial foods. Cats require a high protein diet, and if you guess wrong playing around with the balance yourself, your cat will become painfully ill and die. A cat's dietary needs are quite a bit more complex than that of a dog's, for example. If that doesn't put you off your home-cooking for cats plan, I would say to Google Dr. Michael Fox, a veterinarian, who does have a recipe for something like this. He does know what he's doing. I would trust his recipe.

As far as your cat possibly getting ';bored'; with her diet. This is an unnecessary concern, honestly. Your cat's place on the food chain has predisposed it to certain kinds of foods, and left to its own, it will eat the same thing (mice? birds? rabbits?) over and over and over, without giving it a thought, much less being bored, because the environment provides a narrow range of choices in the food chain. Your cat is far more likely to become a finiciky eater if you feed it a continuous variety of foods; it will decide it likes one, over the others, and you won't know which. It won't eat unless you serve it, and you will go nuts trying to find what the cat is holding out for. It won't necessarily be something that's the best thing to feed your cat. You could load it up with unnecessary calories and give it diabetes. (Yes, cats get diabetes, if they get too fat.)

Also, you could get bored with this idea, if your life becomes busy in ways that it isn't now. You will have set up your cat for a big disappoinment, if you decide you don't want to be tied to cooking for your cat every day.

I would strongly discourage you from doing this with your cat. Feed it a good commercial food, and indulge your love of cooking for yourself!

    Hope that helps.
No bread no noodles no sauces no grain. Your cat is a carnivore which means it needs meat . Want your kitten healthy? Do NOT feed dry food. Yo9u can give chicken, deli meats ect as a snack. Want to prepare something? Cats can eat a specially prepared raw food diet

    http://www.catinfo.org/makingcatfood.htm

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat鈥檚 health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

    http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Rea鈥?/a>

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i鈥檚 and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms

The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in

Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Your safest amd healthiest option is to keep your kitten on KITTEN food until he is ATLEAST 6 months old.

Kitten food is specially formulated, so that the kittens get the exact type of nutrients needed to help them gorw healthily.

Super premium pet food diets are best for young animals....

Your kitten won't get bored with her diet if she is offered a selection of dry food (I always keep dry biscuits down for my kitten) and wet food a couple of times a day.

When it's a bit older, then you can consider giving it mince meat, cooked chicken, etc.

Taking your kitten off of kitten food so early can cause calcium deficiencies, and a whole range of other problems.

If you're really concerned about her diet, perhaps speak with your vet.

    Goodluck

P.S. In addition to what ';Ken'; has written -dry food is healthy for cats, particularly if it is a HIGH quality food, such as those purchased from a Vet clinic (not the commercial supermarket foods).

My mum is a vet nurse, and all of her colleagues (vets and nurses) recommend dry food.

Dry food is good for keeping teeth strong and clean.

It is true that some brands don't use proper meats in their products- however, if you read the ingredient labels - choose the product that lists a protein (beef, chicken, lamb, pork etc) first. Ingredient labels usually list the product that is used the most first..... Please email me if you'd like to discuss this further, or would like more information.

I need low fat and healthy Thanksgiving recipes, but I want something that's delicious and down home.?

I don't want something that calls for odd indredients like rhubarb, or zuchinni squash. I'd like something that taste great but just lower fat and calories. If you have time to copy and paste, or type up a few delicious sides for my turkey day dinner I would be the happiest person out there. I keep looking online, but haven't found anything yummy sounding yet. I know there is something out there. Please help.I need low fat and healthy Thanksgiving recipes, but I want something that's delicious and down home.?
This is from my Aunt's recipe box last year and although I don't really like Sweet Potatoes, I took a liking to this dish when I tasted it with the Turkey Breast!

Peeled and Sliced Sweet Potatoes, Peeled and sliced Tart Apples, sprinkle of dark brown sugar, honey, cinnamon and nutmeg and a drizzle of condensed milk. Put into a glass baking dish, covered with tin foil and baked for about 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Uncover for the last 10 minutes and sprinkle some butter cubes and raisins on top, then continue baking for another 10 minutes and enjoy!!!!!!!! It's not my recipe, but one that I enjoyed immensely! Hope this is what you're looking for today, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

The way you PREPARE your sides is the answer. Omit a lot of the cream and heavy fats from your side dishes. Don't fix the green bean casserole with cream of mushroom soup. Just add fresh mushrooms to green beans, a few soy bacon bits and a little fresh onion. Bake for 30 minutes for a flavorful and HEALTHY dish. Have roasted redskin potatoes instead of butter mashed. Coat quartered redskin potatoes with a drizzle of olive oil, then a sprinkle of dried rosemary. Roast in single layer on a baking sheet, turning occasionally, until crispy brown on the outside---about 20 minutes--and fork tender. Much healthier.

Have a fresh green salad on the side. Roast your turkey! Everyone's happy and healthier!
Turkey itself is actually quite good for you - low fat, good quality protein. Roast sweet potatoes instead of mashing them.

Here's a great healthy side dish:

1 pound fresh Brussels sprouts, trimmed

    2 tablespoons olive oil

3 ounces paper-thin slices pancetta, coarsely chopped

    2 garlic cloves, minced

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

    3/4 cup low-salt chicken broth

Partially cook the Brussels sprouts in a large pot of boiling salted water, about 4 minutes. Drain.

Meanwhile, heat the oil in a heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add the pancetta and saute until beginning to crisp, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and saute until pale golden, about 2 minutes. Add the Brussels sprouts to the same skillet and saute until heated through and beginning to brown, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Add the broth and simmer until the broth reduces just enough to coat the Brussels sprouts, about 3 minutes. Serve.

Does anyone have a recipe for a healthy pie crust?

Does anyone know a way to get around using so much shortening when making a pie crust? I'm trying to make a pie crust that's somewhat healthy. Thanks!Does anyone have a recipe for a healthy pie crust?
    Ingredients:

3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour (Heh, I didn't use pastry.. I just used regular..)

    3/4 cup unbleached flour

1/4 cup natural corn oil (I just used canola, and a bit less than 1/4 cup)

    1 pinch salt

1/2 cup ice water (Not sure what original recipe meant by that, so I just used semi-cold water. Worked fine.)

    Directions:

    1. Stir the flours together in a small bowl and freeze for one hour. Freeze the oil in a separate container for an hour also. Remove both from freezer and mix the oil into the flour until it makes a crumbly dough.

    2. Stir the salt into the ice water and mix the water into the dough. Mix only enough to bind the dough. If it's too dry, add more water, a little at at time.

    3. I found it easiest to simply place the ball of dough into the pan, and squish it around with my hand -- Bake as directed for whatever recipe your using.Does anyone have a recipe for a healthy pie crust?
    Sweet Pie Crust

    Pie Crust:

    2 cups flour

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    1 1/2 teaspoon sugar

    1 cup solid vegetable shortening

    1/2 cup ice water

For the crust: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt and sugar. Add the shortening and work it through with your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and work it in with your hands until you have a smooth ball of dough. Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and place it on a lightly floured surface. This recipe will make two pie crusts.

For the individual crust: Divide the dough into fourths. Roll out the dough on the floured surface into a circle about 5 inches in diameter and 1/8-thick.

For the whole pie crust: Roll out the dough on the floured surface into a circle about 14 inches in diameter and 1/8 inch thick. Gently fold the circles of dough in half and then in half again so that you can lift it without tearing it, and unfold into a 9-inch pie pan.
    PIE CRUST (Whole Wheat)

    1 c. whole wheat flour

    1 c. white flour

    1 stick butter

    1/4 c. Canola oil

    1/4 c. water

    1/2 tsp. salt

Cut butter and oil into flour. When it comes to pea sized balls add water and salt. Roll out with rolling pin. Makes upper and bottom crust.

    APPLE PIE:

    6-9 apples

    1 tsp. cinnamon

    1 tsp. nutmeg

    2 tbsp. maple syrup

    1 tbsp. Arrow Root powder

Fill bottom crust with peeled, cored apples. Add other ingredients and cover with the rest of the crust. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes.

    Whole-Wheat Pastry

    Yield: 12 servings

    Crust:

3/4 cup whole-wheat pastry flour (see Ingredient note)

    3/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar, plus 1 teaspoon for sprinkling

    1/4 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons cold butter (1/2 stick), cut into small pieces

    1 tablespoon canola oil

1/4 cup ice water, plus more as needed

1 large egg, separated (see Tip; save the white to glaze the pastry)

1 teaspoon lemon juice or white vinegar

    To prepare crust:

Whisk whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons sugar and salt in a medium bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with a few larger pieces. Add oil and stir with a fork to blend. Mix 1/4 cup water, egg yolk and 1 teaspoon lemon juice (or vinegar) in a measuring cup.

    Ingredient note:

Whole-wheat pastry flour is milled from soft wheat. It contains less gluten than regular whole-wheat flour and helps ensure a tender result in delicate baked goods while providing the nutritional benefits of whole grains. Available in large supermarkets and in natural-foods stores.

    Store in the freezer. Tip:

To separate eggs safely: Use an egg separator, an inexpensive gadget found in cookware stores; separating eggs by passing the yolk back and forth between pieces of eggshell or your hands can expose the eggs to bacteria.

Add just enough of the egg yolk mixture to the flour mixture, stirring with a fork, until the dough clumps together. (Add a little water if the dough seems too dry.)

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead several times. Form the dough into a ball, then flatten into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

hope these help. good luck and enjoy.
I make pies and cheesecake without the crust. For that crusty feel and taste; I sprinkle Granola or other cereal over the top of the filling. For a splurge, I use Vanilla Wavers.

  • What are some good healthy smoothies recipes?

I'm going on a diet, and I love smoothies! So I decided to make that my breakfast everyday and eat it on my way to school. But i want something different. Not just ';cherry smoothie'; or 'peach smoothie'; (btw i dont like any of those flavors anyway) and I dont like berries AT ALL!(especially raspberries and blue berries and blackberries) But the only berry I like is a Strawberry. I like tropical stuff but no coconut. I would love something like Mango Orange or Strawberry Banana. I want a couple of different recipes so I mix it up every once in a while.

Thanks 鈾モ櫕鈾?: )What are some good healthy smoothies recipes?
    Banana Strawberry Smoothie

    1 banana, broken into chunks

    1 teaspoon banana extract

    3/4 cup milk

1 (8 ounce) container strawberry yogurt

    2 teaspoons white sugar

    DIRECTIONS

Place banana, banana extract, milk, yogurt, and sugar into a blender. Blend until smooth and serve.

    Mango Banana Smoothie

    1 banana

    1/2 cup frozen mango pieces

    1/3 cup plain yogurt

    1/2 cup orange-mango juice blend

    DIRECTIONS

Combine the banana, mango, yogurt, and juice in a blender; blend until nearly smooth.

    Tropical Fruit Smoothie

    1 mango, peeled and seeded

    1 papaya, peeled and seeded

    1/2 cup fresh strawberries

    1/3 cup orange juice

    5 cubes ice

    DIRECTIONS

Place the mango, papaya, strawberries, orange juice, and ice cubes in an electric blender. Process until the ingredients are smooth. What are some good healthy smoothies recipes?
You should put in some banana (1-2), and frozen fruit of whatever kind you like maybe strawberries or pineapple or mango, add some (Silk plus Omega DHA) soymilk and then blend away! This kind turns out deliciously creamy and the soymilk adds some protein to help keep you feeling full.

You can either buy fresh fruit and then freeze it or just buy frozen fruit in the bag. I like to freeze the fruit instead of adding ice because ice makes it taste watery. I have one of these every morning. To mix it up I change up the frozen fruit I use and always keep the banana and soy milk.
Smoothies made with sweetened yogurt aren't going to help you lose weight. If you're looking for healthy smoothies that will help you lose weight, do this. go buy a 32 oz container of Dannon plain (NO SUGAR added) fat-free yogurt. Make sure you have some skim milk, protein powder, frozen fruit (strawberry, mangoes, whatever else you like), fiber powder (clear, and flavorless), fresh fruit, like bananas, and some fruit juice thats not from concentrate (orange juice, pomegranate juice, etc). Blend 1 cup of plain yogurt with 1/2 cup of skim milk or fruit juice, and some protein and fiber powder (it will make you feel fuller so you won't need to consume as many calories). Add some frozen fruit, or if you're using fresh fruit, add some ice cubes.

Mix a cup of frozen strawberries with half a banana, 1 container nonfat vanilla yogurt, 1 cup skim milk.

or if you like chocolate and strawberrys together i mix a can of milk chocolate slim fast with a cup of frozen strawberrys. yummy
Well you can mix any fruits and they'll taste awesome I love smoothies too. One that I really like is banana and orange. Ok, I know that sounds really gross but it is actually really good. Mix in half a banana with some orange (or orange juice!) and even put in some orange rinds. It tastes really good because the banana is sweet and the orange gives it a tangy kick and it tastes so good, trust me. You can do strawberry smoothies on its own, cause those are good too. You should go to a health food store and get some protein soy powder. You put it in your smoothies, it barely has any flavor, and it gives it a lot of protein so its really healthy!

What is a good recipe for a healthy sandwich ?

I prefer any kind of vegetable, fish or chicken sandwiches, but not beef, pork, and cheese. What is a good recipe for a healthy sandwich ?
I'd say : lettuce, tomato, cucumber, fish or (chicken if preferred), and carrots with whole wheat buns. :D You can choose from either but those are healthy choices you can choose from. :)What is a good recipe for a healthy sandwich ?
I know a lot of people are very health conscious today. There are many substitutes for mayo or cheese. For example avocados are very creamy and can substitute for the creamy texture of mayo. You can even mash it up and add a little seasoning of choice to it. Another good ingredients is balsamic or vinegar like redwine or white wine or even rice wine. You can season up some tuna with it with a little extra virgin olive oil and some sea salt instead of regular old table salt. Processed foods is the killer today. Your body was never built to reprocess food so it just spits it out and you get no nutrients from it. Try to find a bakery who makes whole wheat bread fresh and make it a habbit to eat this way. Farmers market have a lot of affordable fresh fruits and veg. You can always make your own chicken and cut it up and mix it with some curry and apples and some celery onions and currants and make a chicken curry sandwich with a little yogurt and lemon juice. You can mix vinegar and a little sugar into your tuna maybe with a little tamari. Serve it with avos and tomatoe and sprouts. You can make a grilled veggie sandwich with some ground turky and mustard. The sky is the limit with what you can do. Maybe add a little horseradish for a kick. Now days most natural food stores carry organic turkey meat, and tofu cheese, but remember fresh is always better. You can also slice your chicken up or turkey and freeze it. You can flavor your chicken with spices and herbs before cooking and have a flavored chicken to eat. Good luck with your ventures and have some fun with your food. Tahini is also very delicious with some tofu cheddar flavored cheese and sprouts. Try a mushroom burger with carmelized onions and a sundried tomato pesto. Maybe a salmon one with a little lemon or lime oil?

Toast your bread every now and then or make a open face hot sandwich.

Yogurt is the way to go, because you can add anything to it. You can even maybe do a pita or whole wheat wrap. Don't limit yourself to what you can do with food.
Use whole Grain bread.Toasted. Take red pepper slices from a jar an put on baking pan. Cut into slices, one eggplant %26amp; one zuccinian put on the oven pan take a slice of portobello mushroom an place on oven pan, an broil on high till to you desire about three to five minutes. Take a clove of raw garlic an slice it in half. Take one half an rub on the side of the bread an do the same with the other side. Take veggies out of oven put on bread . Take toothpick an place in sandwich enjoy.
what i really enjoy is a veggie sandwich. Get whatever kind of bread/bagel/croissant you like and add about a tablespoon of cream cheese ( i use garden veggie light) and i add lettuce, cucumber, tomato and a tad of mayo... for a bit more flavour add a bit of dill... so yummy...mmmmm
Turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce sandwich (all organic, and free range). Its all a matter of opinion, but I think they are extremely nice, especially server slightly warm.

Or you could always go for lamb, or minted lamb sandwiches (organic and slightly warm).

Where can I find healthy, easy recipes for 2?

I'm a below-average cook with very little interest in cooking, but I feel like my husband and I eat out way too often. Fast food, take out, or sit down restaurants nearly every day. I also recently found out I have borderline high cholesterol.

I don't like spending an hour or more cooking only to eat a meal in less than 15 minutes and have leftovers that are wasted. Plus there's always the chance that I'll flub the recipe and it will be inedible or disappointing. I'm not interested in counting calories or losing weight, but rather I want to start eating a whole lot more veggies and fresh food. I was raised on pork chops, meat loaf, fried chicken, spaghetti, etc. I have no idea how to cook interesting veggie dishes. Anyone have recommendations for websites or books that sound like they might help?Where can I find healthy, easy recipes for 2?
I highly recommend a subscription to one of the Reiman Publication's cooking magazines. Here is one of their online links called Cooking For Two. Very simple, delicious, and easy meals/recipes.

    1 cup chopped pecans

Preat to 350. Beat hot sweet taters with margarine until smooth. Add remaining ingredients except pecan topping. Mix well. Pour into pastry shell. Bake 30 mins.

Mix pecan topping ingredients, spoon evenly over top of cooked pie. Bake 20-25 mins or longer
I'm not a good cook either, but in the last year I have learned to BBQ, and I put veggies on the grill in aluminum foil. It's quick (about 15 min), hot, and tasty. The only thing that can go wrong is burning them to a crisp, so if you don't do that you're golden.

Corn on the cob with butter and rosemary sprigs, wrapped in foil.

Zuchini, mushrooms, 1 whole mashed potatoe, artichoke hearts, a little oil and spices - microwave the potato for 6 minutes first, that mostly cooks it. Then dice EVERYTHING, mix together and wrap in foil with butter or oil.

Eggplant, sliced, with lemon juice and garlic, on the grill, about 5 min/side, depending on how cooked you like it.

Cook up a little hamburger, add grated cheese, cut up broccoli, minced garlic and apples. Cook in foil.

Those are a few of the good ones I've tested!

    Good luck!

The best thing is to take one of your already favorite recipes and make it healthier... like add more vegetables to it, replace fatty things with low fat options, replace any white pastas or breads with whole grain, and dont have a lot of sugar. I love doing stuffed peppers with coucous, a little lowfat cheese, vegetables, and if you want, some chicken chunks. Stick with white meats and fish. Also, making a stew is easy... just get some boullion cubes (almost no calories) and dump all your favorite veggies/pasta/chicken in the pot and let it sit for a while! Good luck!
    slice 2 shallots

start to sautee them in oil in a wide skillet

put 3 tilapia filets in the skillet, along the sides

slice a few dozen grape tomatoes in half the long way

do the same with a dozen kalamata olives

turn the tilapia filets over when they've browned on one side

then put the tomatoes in the middle

wait a few minutes and put the olives on top of the tomatoes

when the fish are cooked, serve topped with the tomatoes and olives

    -------------

    side dish:

sautee a few tablespoons of chopped carrots, chopped celery and chopped onion (mirepoix) in a sauce pan

toss in 1/2 cup of diced ham, canadian bacon, turkey-ham, turkey - you get the idea

wash a can of white or pink beans and put them in the pot as well, add pepper, and stir

pour in 1 cup of chicken broth and cook until the beans absorb the broth

    serve with the fish

    ---------

finish with a tossed salad --- try chopped belgian endive with pickled beets, and avocado --- a good dressing is 2 tlbspns balsamic vinegar, 1 tblspn olive oil, 1 tblspn dijon

reduce 2 cups of chicken stock in a pan
My boyfriend and I are huge fans of this one:

    Chicken Asparagus Stir-fry (serves 2)

1 boneless, skinless chicken breast (cut into 1'; chunks)

1 cup asparagus (fresh or frozen and thawed)

    3 green onion chopped

    1 tbsp oil

    Sauce

2 tsp. reduced sodium soya sauce

    1 slice chopped ginger

    1 tsp cornstarch

    1 tsp dry sherry (optional)

Combine sauce ingredients, place chicken ontop of sauce in bowl. Heat 1/2 oil in wok or pan, stirfry asparagus until tender. Remove from wok and set aside. Heat other 1/2 oil, add chicken, but save as much of the sauce as possible. Once chicken is cooked, add aparagus back into wok and add sauce. Stirfry until done.

I like to serve this with whole grain rice and a cucumber salad (sliced cucumber with about 1 tbsp low-fat yogurt and vinegar added to make it tangy, and dried dill for taste).
I totally know where you are coming from. Here are a couple of things that cook up that are easy and healthy.

Place 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a shallow casserole dish. Season with basil, garlic, and seasoning salt. Pour 1/2 cup california dressing over chicken and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

I also like to cook chicken breasts in 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup greek with feta and oregano dressing, with rosemary, oregano, and garlic to season.

Or, here is an easy slow cooked stew recipe:

1 round steak cut into 1'; cubes (or 1 package stewing beef)

    4 medium potatoes

    4 large carrots

    1 medium onion, chopped

    4 celery stalks

    1 can tomato soup

1/4 cup woschestershire (not quite sure how to spell that) sauce

    1 tbsp beef boullion

season with seasoning salt, garlic, and oregano

Combine all of the prior ingredients in a slow cooker. Cook on low for at least 6 hours. If you do not have a slow cooker, combine ingredients and cook in oven at 175 degrees for 6 hours.

Does anyone have recipes for healthy omelets? Thanks.?

Omelets over all are good for you if you are dieting. Just make it with three eggs and veggies and cheese even an extra protein. When you have toast and hash browns or pancakes with your omelet is when it is bad for you.It is a great high protein low car breakfast. Keeps you full and your blood sugar levels stay flat lined on at good level.Does anyone have recipes for healthy omelets? Thanks.?
    Spring Omelet

    1 tablespoon olive oil

    2 eggs

    1/4 cup milk (optional)

3 spears asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces

    1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms

    1/3 cup green onions, chopped

    1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the asparagus, mushrooms and onions; cook and stir until the asparagus is fairly soft, about 4 minutes. Whisk together the eggs and milk in a small bowl; pour over the sauteed vegetables and reduce the heat to medium. While the omelet cooks, lift the edge to allow the uncooked egg to flow underneath. When most of the egg is cooked, sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top. Allow the cheese to melt slightly, then fold in half and serve.

Does anyone have recipes for healthy omelets? Thanks.?
Use eggbeaters or egg whites in the place of the real eggs. Use any veggie that you like. My personal favorite is this:

    1 tsp I Can't Believe It's Not Butter

    1/2 green pepper, diced

    1/2 white onion, diced

    5 mushrooms, sliced

    Pam Cooking Spray, butter flavor

    1/2 C Eggbeaters

    1/4 C 2% Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Saute green pepper, onion and mushroom in the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter over medium heat until soft. In a separate non-stick pan, spray with butter flavored Pam. Heat over medium heat until pan is hot. Add Eggbeaters to pan. Swish it around so that a fine layer of egg sticks to the side of the pan. Leave the egg mixture alone for a few minutes to allow it to cook and ';set up.'; When the egg is about 70% cooked solid, it is time for the second swish. Whatever liquid mixture is left in the skillet, swirl it around the edges again to make the crispy edge layer thicker. Let the omelet continue to cook until the crispy thin egg edge starts to pull away from the pan. This is when to add the cooked fillings of green pepper, onions and mushrooms. Place them on one half of the omelette. Sprinkle with cheese. Now, using a spatula, carefully run in under the side that doesn't have the filling and flip over the side that has the fillings. Let it sit in the pan for approximately 30 seconds to allow the cheese to melt. Slide out onto your plate:-)
Put whatever ingredients you deem to be healthful in a ziploc bag. Shake it up so the egg runs all over everything and it's all pretty mixed up. Put the bag in boiling water for 10-12 minutes. This method eliminates any cooking oil, grease, butter, etc. Kids love 'em!
Egg Beaters, Asparagus, imitation crab meat, low-fat monterey jack cheese.
Egg whites, sauteed mushrooms, onions, red peppers and feta cheese. My favorite.
Feta cheese, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and green olives. YUM!

Anyway, my dog is neither fat nor too skinny, but I feel she should have a better and healthier diet. We have dry food for her, but my mom keeps it in a bin not closed up AT ALL and yes we do have house mice and i get worried bout that problem. My mom mixes the cat food with the dog food, same brand but still, idk if thats such a good idea. ANd my mom spoils her sooo badly, she feeds her scraps from her plate whenever maggie begs. Her health isn't that big of a problem now but i feel i should try it anyway, she doesnt like eating her dried food as much when its been uncovered for too long. We can give her a huge bowl and she will only eat like 10 pieces or less. %26gt;.%26lt; wat should we do???Need home made healthy dog recipes for small bejan yorkie???
You mom should STOP feeding her cat food, and table craps! Her health will be a BIG problem in the future if this continues even though it ';isn't that big of a problem now';.

Here is a site that will show you which dog foods are the best and the worst. I suggest that you get any one of the dog foods that are top rated.

    http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_鈥?/a>

Most of grocery store dog food formulas, like IAMS, Pedigree, Science Diet, Purina, and etc contain ';meat and bone meal'; which has been known to contain dead dogs and cats that were euthanized in animal shelters. Their bodies are picked up and bought by the truck load by ';rendering plants'; , that also pick up road kill, dead live stock, and etc. They are shredded, and boiled. They skim off the fat on the top of the ';soup'; and collected it and sell it to pet food companies as ';animal fat';, the rest of the animals' remains are crushed up, dried and sold to dog and cat food companies as meat and bone meal.

You can read more about it here.

    http://earthislandprojects.org/eijournal鈥?/a>

Here is an article where the owner of a rendering plant talks about it. He says that cremating the dead shelter animals would cause pollution, and that rendering them is good.

Healthy dog food that i feed to my dog are:

small choped carrots (plain: fresh, boiled) so he won't choke on them, cooked pasta or noodles (plain), fresh fruits: sliced pair, sliced apples, sliced bananas. My dog enjoys these meals of variety. You dog should too. I tried to do more research but it doesn't show. To know more go to a local library out or in your school. I hope you find what you are looking for :)
She's a yokie. Their not gonan eat more than eleven peices at a time. If you want to give her a home recipe I recommend mixing some meats and veggies like chicken for protien and potatoes. Dogs like potatoes. Don't give her anything spicy though. That can kill them.
I would recommend trying these websites:

A raw diet is really good. You can feed one RAW chicken neck and a little bit of rice and vegetables (except for onions).
make sure she has her own bowl and keep others out of it she has a good nose and if she is like our small dog doesnt like any other smells on it

try putting drippings on the dry food like when u cook meat
find some recipes on the internet.
Eggs are recommended to feeding a dog because they have lots of protein, and some how carry nutrients that other meats can't that are good for dogs. Potatoes are great too, but as you most likely know (avoid all chocolates and spices). Chocolate in small doses can't kill a dog, but can give a dog diarrhea. Also, it can kill your dog, but dome times it just gives them major diarrhea and illness. Grains are good for dogs, they need them even though they are carnivores. My dog hates dry foods and is very picky, so I give him a diet that he likes, that gives him the nutrients and vitamins he needs in natural resources.

Won't be something I would be interested in but if you want to give it a try here are some websites and recipes. My niece has been a vegetarian for 8 years - she is happy with her life style.
Warmed quinoa, feta and butternut squash salad (ingredients and method to follow)

I based this recipe on a warmed salad I had when on holiday in New Zealand, at a small wholefood cafe in Wanaka. The beauty of it is that you can add as many other ingredients as you like to vary the taste or texture or to provide particular nutrients, but here is the version that I like to make:

    ingredients:

1/3 of a butternut squash - chopped into 1cm square cubes

8 - 10 small cubes of feta cheese (the ready-cubed versions by Appetina are perfect for this. I love the ones in the small pack with garlic flavour!)

    1 cup of quinoa

    1 small onion - chopped

1 stick of brocolli, broken into small florets

    1 avocado - chopped

1/2 packet of salad leaves, torn (I like to use baby leaf including rocket as it has the most interesting and the flavour complements the other ingredients)

    1/4 cucumber - chopped

A sprinkling of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and toasted pine nuts

A little olive oil for frying

Pinch of salt and black pepper

    Balsamic vinegar for serving (optional).

    method:

Cook butternut squash by boiling until softened (usually takes 6 - 10 mins. Can also be microwaved in a bowl for 5 - 6 mins)

Wash quinoa in a sieve then put in a small pan, cover with water. Season with pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to boil and simmer for 10-15 mins or until you can see the husks separating from the rest of the grain. This can also be done in a bowl in the microwave if desired. Make sure it doesn't boil dry, and add a little water if it looks like this will happen. The idea is for the quinoa to absorb the water like rice.

Steam brocolli - or microwave! - until softened but so that it still has some bite.

Fry onion in a little olive oil until soft (takes 2 - 3 mins).

Add cooked squash to the onion and fry until browned slightly.

Prepare salad leaves in a bowl, add chopped cucumber and avocado.

Mix in the onion and squash mixture.

Finally add the seeds mixture and toss ingredients together.

Serve on its own, perhaps with a dash of balsamic vinegar, or also with a jacket potato if you are very hungry (also healthy as it provides fibre and more carbohydrate).

This version is a healthy meal for vegetarians because:

    - It contains 'superfoods' such as quinoa, brocolli, seeds and avocado

    - Quinoa is an excellent source of protein AND carbohydrates

    - Feta cheese is also a good source of protein, plus is a dairy product so contains calcium

    - The seeds contain omega oils which are very good for joints and brain health and are most famously found in fish products, so these are great vegetarian options

    - It is a 'rainbow' recipe: it is recommended that you eat a variety of coloured foods, and this one has a white (onion), yellow (squash) and green (brocolli). Could add cherry tomatoes to get full spectrum but I think they clash flavour wise.

    - It is low in fat

The recipe might sound a bit fussy to make, but it is really easy! Quinoa is easily found in supermarkets now as well as places like Holland and Barret (in the UK anyway). It is still a largely overlooked vegetarian ingredient but is perfect because of its healthy properties.

I hope you enjoy it :)
    No
I use a lot of vegetarian dishes in my diet. They make control of diabetes much easier.

Some years ago, when exploring this aspect of diet, I consulted a friend, who was, at that time, the vegetarian chef for a major Hospital Trust. I was most surprised to be informed that a large proportion of vegetarian meals are, contrary to public belief, very fattening!

............ so much for the claims of the Vegans!
    i make a gorgeous one

    you will need:

    2 wraps

    cheese

    Leeks

    Carrots

    Onion

Chop all veg fine and cook in pan till soft, then put in wrap (flat) with as much grated cheese as desired then put other wrap on top then warm in a frying pan, and then carefully turn it over until both sides are lightly brown. (turning over should be quite easy as the cheese will have melted together to form a bond)

sorry if this doesnt work out, its easier to do than say

    Good luck =]
