Does anyone have any quick, easy recipes that would work for me?
I know the basics, like spaghetti and macaroni and cheese, so I don't need to know how to make those.
I like meats except... fishDoes anyone have any quick, easy (hopefuly healthy) recipes for a college student?
Make fried noodle or spaghetti from ramen noodles.
Just drain off the broth and don't use the seasoning. Then either coat the frying pan with cooking spray and fry it lightly with vegetable and sone soy sauce or mix it with warmed up spaghetti sauce.Does anyone have any quick, easy (hopefuly healthy) recipes for a college student?
There are a couple of great (ie. easy recipes) cookbooks out there, not only for college students, but new brides, inexperienced cooks, guys who have never set foot in the kitchen, etc. A few of them are:
The Healthy College Cookbook
The Starving Student's Cookbook
Cooking Outside the Pizza box: Easy Recipes for Today's College Student
You can find them online or I'm guessing at any Barnes and Nobles.
Buy Texas Toast (Thick slices of bread). One jar of chicken gravy - one boneless, skinless chicken breast cooked and chopped - a box of stove top stuffing. Make stuff according to box (easy) put cooked, chopped Chicken in with gravy and heat. Lightly toast your bread. Put stuffing on sliced bread and cover with hot chicken and gravy. This is one hearty, comfort food, and cheap recipe. Everyone loves this (all ages). This should be enough for 2 people, 2 sliced each.
Basic Microwave Risotto
Microwave Risotto is great because of its forgiving nature; if you forget it for a half hour, nothing is lost. Also, it is a wonderful clean-out-the-fridge, use-your-imagination, I-just-bounced-five-checks recipe. It reheats well too. You can use margarine or olive oil in place of the butter, and you can use apple juice or white grape juice in place of the wine.
INGREDIENTS
3 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups vegetable broth
1 cup uncooked Arborio rice
3/4 cup white wine
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
DIRECTIONS
In a 3 quart, microwave safe casserole dish combine butter, garlic and onion. Place dish in microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes.
Place vegetable broth in a microwave safe dish. Heat on microwave until the broth is hot but not boiling (approximately 2 minutes).
Stir the rice and broth into the casserole dish with the onion, butter and garlic mixture. Cover the dish tightly and cook on high for 6 minutes.
Stir wine into the rice. Cook on high for 10 minutes more. Most of the liquid should boil off. Stir the cheese into the rice and serve.
When I was a single and living alone, I loved stir fry. You could buy a big bag of stir fry vegetables, Toshida's teriyaki sauce, and the meat (or tofu) of your choice. I also bought a rice cooker and would make jasmine rice in it (brown rice is even healthier). Stir fry %26amp; rice always tasted great, was healthy and filling..and made enough for leftovers.
Get a medium sized crock pot. In the morning, throw in a large chunk of beef, some roughly chopped vegetables, some salt, pepper, other spices as you like, and enough water to just cover everything. Turn it on, and by dinner time you should have a nice beef stew/soup that should last you a good 4 or 5 days and taste better each day.
2 Chicken breasts, 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup, 1 6oz can of Sliced Mushrooms, 1 package of Egg Noodles, 1 onion, and Vegetable Oil.

Prepare Egg Noodles according to package, and then serve the chicken and sauce over the cooked noodles. Add salt and pepper to taste, also grated parmesan cheese is great sprinkled over this dish.

ramen noodles!! You can mix a lot with them. You can mix in veggies. Or you can even mix in tomato sauce and veggies...make kind of a soup. Or make up some hamburger meat and season it with the broth from the ramen noodles and mix the noodles in w/ it.....trust me ramen noodles are life savers in college....
Now that I'm retired I get to cook what ever I want and have the time to spend all day on a meal...but there was a time...
now here's what I did...I waited for something in bulk to go sale...like the big family pack's of chicken or hamburger...(if you like liver that's always cheap and that you just fry up with onions)... I'd buy those and put them in freezer bags. each bag would hold enough for one meal...
okay so like what would I make?
lets do a chicken breast...
One breast thawed sprinkled with salt pepper and a touch of lemon pepper. place in a skillet with a table spoon of oil and on low heat cook for 45 minutes.... while that's cooking try some steamed fresh carrots and serve with a small salad...
Now hamburger doesn't have to be just hamburger's you can make a one person meatloaf simply by adding gravy or a small can of spaghetti sauce poured over the top after its fried...of course you can get all fancy and wrap a burger in bacon or stuff the inside with cheese....
the real trick is to preplan your meals and watch the newspaper flyer's for the sales...don't be scared to drop 12 bucks for that big package of chicken because your going to get 8 meals out of it and it's lots cheaper than buying them one piece at a time...
You need to learn how to stir fry.
Basically, you cut up vegetables and meat of your choice. Heat 1 TBSP of oil in a wok or skillet, add some minced garlic, (or minced garlic and minced ginger) for 30 seconds or so, add the vegie or meat that needs the most cooking (ie carrots and celery and pork) and then the next most cooking (onions green beans, chicken and beef) then the least cooking (spinach, brocolli, bell peppers, and shrimp) , splash with teriaki or soy sauce, and serve over pasta or rice.
You can do the whole thing in one pan. Just cook the rice or pasta while cutting up the other ingredient and keep the starch warm while you do the quick stir fry at the end.
You can use different flavorings and combinations. If you like things hot add pepper flakes. If you like things Italian omit the soy sauce and ginger, add oregano, fennel seeds and parmesasn cheese. If you like Mediterranean add lemon and dill.
Here is an easy recipe to make in the microwave! Healthy too!
I bunch fresh spinash (have already washed in the bag)
I piece salmon
salt, pepper, olive oil, lemon
Optional slivered almonds
Place your spinash on the bottom of the dish, place salmon on top season with salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon juice.
(optional) slivered almond on top.
If you place a wet paper towel over the dish if will not smell up your room!
cook for about 7 minutes or more if you like it more cooked!
That's it!!!! its really delicious! Enjoy!!
something easy that i like to make.....put a chicken breast in a small casserole pan or even in foil...add some cut up veggies...we like to make it with potaotes, red yellow and green bell peppers, and carrots....throw that on top of the chicken...drizzle with some garlic and olive oil, some lime juice...throw it in the oven....it takes about 1 1/2 hours to bake at 450 degrees...but it is easy to throw together, and you can throw in extra veggies and chicken for great leftovers! You can even find lil potatoes and the veggies already cut up, cost extra but it is easy!

kashi frozen dinners are amazing.
they are fairly low calorie with tons of protein and fiber.
i've seen them at almost every grocery store i've been to.
sometimes they're 2 for 7 dollars as opposed to the usual 4 or 5 dollars a piece. But in general... frozen dinners are INCREDIBLE.
*just watch the sodium and fat content*
Hmmm...you don't like fish eh? I might be able to change your mind lol. My boyfriend HATES fish, all kinds, but I got him to like this dish that I came up with. Its just Salmon and egg noodles.
You'll need:
1 Egg
Bread Crumbs[or just some crumbled up saltines]
1 small pack in your case, of the Chicken Of The Sea Salmon
Egg Noodles
Salt
And Butter.
All you do is boil the egg noodles.
While they are boiling, take the Salmon and empty it into a bowl. Add the egg, and about a cup of bread crumbs, just enough to make the mixture come together. And also about 1 and a half tablespoons of butter, its really what you prefer. The more butter you put, obviously the more buttery it will taste. lol. Mix that all together and melt some butter in a frying pan. Cook the mixture, breaking it up into pieces as you do, just until it is browned. I'd say for about 5-10 minutes. Make sure you stir a lot, you don't want it to burn.
After thats done, your noodles should be cooked so strain them and then add about 4 tablespoons of butter, just enough to coat the noodles. Then add a few pinches of salt, mainly to your tastes. After thats finished add the salmon mixture and stir. I promise you'll fall in love with the dish if you try it. Its super easy and I make it all the time after a workout or soccer/softball game. But if you end up not liking it [if you try it] then I guess I was wrong lol. But hope I helped, even though you don't like fish. ehhh =/
Ground turkey burger with whole wheat bun!!
buy frozen vegetables they taste better than canned all you have to do is boil them in water or microwave them. you can also buy whole wheat bread and deli meat.
Stock up on some canned soups - vegetable, tomato, mushroom, etc. . You can always add vegetables, rice, noodles or meat, hot dog pieces (once in awhile) to the soups.
When I was young, years ago, Campbell soups were the instant meal available. This was prior to ramen.
Of course there were always whole wheat bread and peanut butter or cheese sandwiches.. We'd boil a hot dog and roll a slice of bread around it, too.
healthy means lots of vegetables,no spaghetti or macaroni. Stir fry small cut vegetables (a mix of carrots, broccoli, onion, leek, paksoy or whatever is available) with herbs and pepper if you like it spicy. Make a bouillon (cube and water) put in the vegetables add lentils and chickpeas (from a can). You don't have to add meat because there is protein in the lentils.Very easy!!
One thing I did when I was poor and first out on my own, is I made what I called ';Tuna burrito's';
It sounds gross, but I've tried them on others, and everyone likes them!
Heat Tortillas on the stovetop flame, put them on a plate, then put tuna and mayo on it. Cheese if you have it. It's great!
Eat lots of fruit %26amp; vegies, or you'll get unhealthy!
Steam your vegetables, put cheese on them!
cereal
get ramen noodles or cup o noodles and cook it with lots of fresh veggies...my sister goes to college and she eats that all the time
get nice chicken tenders from ur meat market and marinade them with spices like ms.dash and salt....fry them in some oil and add some corn to the side...easy peasy! and not much fat. Also one pot meals like stews and soups are easy and freezable...when my brother was in college my mom would make a 20 min soup freeze the soup in ice cube trays so that my brother could melt them in a pot for little servings and put in a little chicken. Good Luck ...and Ramen Noodles have to much sodium! -P.P%26gt;
